Outdoor Bound will be leading us on a five-mile hike in a series of trails in a hilly area known for its numerous lakes and impressive views. There are also opportunities for bouldering, if you are up for it! Enjoy magnificent scenery along the hike and gorgeous vistas from the tops of three mountains. We'll eat lunch and rest at a stunning lake. Over four hours, we will gain 1,300 hundred feet in elevation. You will sweat, and the trail will be rocky, so join us if you're in adequate physical shape. You'll be rewarded for your efforts with a wine tasting at a real farm winery in New York’s Hudson Valley. You will sample Chardonnays, Cabernet Franc, barrel fermented reds, and delicious fruit wines including Hard Apple Cider from the local vineyards. Every wine is produced in a “limited edition” with almost every bottle spoken for as soon as its made. There is also a wonderful cafe, where you can order delicious food prepared by a CIA-trained chef. There is very limited space in this event. Sunday 8/22 9:45 AM - 1:00 PM Join Urban Girl Squad as we team up with God's Love We Deliver (GLWD), the free meal preparation and delivery service for people with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-threatening illnesses, to prepare food for those who are too ill to shop or cook for themselves. GLWD is a non-profit, non-religious organization founded in 1985 that prepares and delivers meals to people with fatal diseases and provides nutritional counseling to their clients. At GLWD, every meal is prepared by hand and delivered to clients' doorsteps each day, offering encouragement and companionship for people whose illness limits their ability to get up and out to shop and cook for themselves. God's Love We Deliver 166 Avenue of the Americas at Spring Street Free! After a brief orientation and food safety review, we will be helping with various types of food prep, including chopping and peeling veggies, wrapping bagels, and preparing a pack-out for the next day's deliveries. All equipment will be provided -- hairnets, aprons, knives, and cutting boards. T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers are recommended, as shoulders, armpits, knees, and toes MUST be covered, regardless of the weather. Monday 8/2 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM New York Vintner's head chef, Christopher Meeker, will teach us how to make fresh pasta from scratch! We'll learn the differences between fresh and boxed pasta and then learn how to make our own fresh pasta at home. Each person will have hands-on experience making farfalle at the class and we'll learn how to make seven different pasta shapes. Throughout the event, we will sample five different Italian wines while a wine expert teaches us the origins of the wine, wine tasting tips, and pairing advice for wine and food.
